Hill and Markes Survives and Grows

TOWN OF FLORIDA – After 100 years, several moves, and recent flooding and regional destruction, Hill & Markes is not only surviving, it’s growing. The family based wholesale distributo of food service, disposable, industrial packaging and office supplies unveiled its 130,000 square foot facility Friday on Route 5S.

A virtual who’s who of the regional powers in both the political and business arenas were in attendance for the celebration of company that had 75 employees in 2004 but today employs 165.

More than 100 people watched a short documentary of the company’s creation and growth over the years starting from a candy and ice cream distributor in 1906 to being purchased by Harry and Harriet Finkle in 1947 and then turned over to the second generation of Finkles in the 1970s.
