Hill & Markes Inc Receives Prestigious Awards from National Association
At a recent shareholders meeting held in Dallas, Texas, Hill & Markes Inc, located in Amsterdam, New York was awarded the honor of “Member of the Year” by Network Services.
Criteria for the award included:
- Purchasing power
- Increased sales volume
- Excellent customer service for national accounts
- Participation in improving Network and sharing best practices with other Network distributors
- New innovations, reinvestment in our company (i.e., new facility)
Network Services, a collaborative organization, is the premier association for a limited number of top distributors throughout the world. Hill & Markes is one of 75 members in North America. The award is one that is not presented every year, only upon the merit of the members. While at the Dallas meeting, Hill & Markes also received an additional recognition based on the workings of the organization.
Hill & Markes has been a member of Network Services since 2005. It previously belonged to another organization for 25 years. Neal Packer, CEO stated that “Once invited to join Network Services, we knew we were moving to a premier organization that would offer our company opportunities in the business community we did not have access to previously. This has proven to be true.”
Hill & Markes is a family owned business that has integrated the 3rd generation into the organization.
The company is always looking to be the best in the industry. In 2011, the business moved into a custom built Green Building, looking for LEED Gold Certification. The building is able to efficiently service, all of New York State and Vermont with its own fleet of trucks.
In consideration for the community, the company and employees have always been involved in non-profit organizations. Each year the employees collect food and money for the Regional Food Bank in December. This September, employees collected back packs and in conjunction with vendors and local agencies, fill 100 back packs for students in need. Currently the staff is collecting phones for Project Hope for women who may need to call 911. A team is going to be walking in Albany for the American Cancer Society in October.
Hill & Markes Inc. delivers to their customer’s four product divisions: food service disposables, industrial packaging, janitorial products and office supplies. Offering hands on training at the facility or at the customer location is a value added proposition that is an important part of the Hill & Markes package.
Opening in 1906 making ice cream, ice cream cones and candy, Harry and Harriet Finkle purchased the company from Amos Hill and Charlie Markes in 1947. In the 1970’s Neal Packer, now COO, Andrea Finkle Packer, Vice President of Marketing, Jeffrey Finkle, President, joined the company. In 2009, Jason Packer, Business Development, joined the company. The breath of product has certainly expanded and evolved since 1906.
