RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY ON OCTOBER 14TH FOR 130,000 SQ. FT. NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN AMSTERDAM, NY ESTABLISHED IN 1906
FAMILY BASED BUSINESS GROWING DESPITE BAD ECONOMY AND RECENT STORM DEVASTATION.
Amsterdam, NY — Hill & Markes, a family based wholesale distributor of food service disposables, industrial packaging, janitorial products, and office supplies with deliverables to Upstate New York and Vermont, is proud to announce a ribbon cutting ceremony for their state-of-the-art corporate headquarters, located at 1997 State Highway 5S on Friday, October 14th at 10am. Among the guests attending the ribbon cutting ceremony will be New York State Lt. Governor, Robert Duffy and Joe Kanfer, CEO of GOJO (most well known product is PURELL® instant hand sanitizer).
“The concept for the new 130,000 square feet warehouse started over seven years ago to improve efficiencies by tripling the capacity of the new warehouse while using the same amount of energy and supporting company growth”, stated Andrea Packer, VP of Marketing, Hill & Markes.” We are proud to share good news with the community and very excited to see this project come to fruition in a bad economy, post the flooding and tornado that created local devastation.”
The former space was located on Edson Street in Amsterdam with only 75,000 square feet. The new space is substantially larger, a green building (in the application phase for LEED certification), with many sustainable features including two executive offices, seven conference/training rooms, and a high-tech warehouse. The office portion of the new facility also has 45 cubicles with space for more. The company has 170 employees.
The main training room holds up to 90 people and has special sections for product demos such as a commercial sink, toilet and shower. The room is named after Harry and Harriet Finkle who purchased the business in 1947. The company also has a new computer system with real time inventory and ordering. Throughout the building it is noticeable the company uses the products they sell. Construction began in June 2010 and was completed in July 2011 for a total cost of $12 million. The company will soon have a tobacco-free policy for both the building and property.
Mr. Kanfer stated, “Hill and Markes is an incredible 100+ year success story of a family business that takes care of its customers like family. They bring an astute understanding of what their customers need to meet their business challenges and then proactively deliver the most advanced solutions. We are proud to call the Packer family both extraordinary distributors and wonderful friends.”
